Footballers were better and more skilful in those days. The game was played by senior men. The youth players served an apprenticeship playing reserve football.
I was there. 14 years old in the Ozzie End slightly to the left of goal. My feet were off the ground for the whole game, wedged in between adult shoulders I watched and apart from the goals and the roar of the crowd when we scored I remember King Kev's backside disappearing down the line time and again.I think they admitted to about 45,000 but there were considerably more than that on the night. Great days indeed. Thanks for posting.
Real football played by hard men.
Qué golazo el segundo!!!!
Dave Mackay’s Derby side was beautiful to watch in the days of goalies not wearing gloves, little arguing with the referee (even though there were some terrible decisions) sponsorship limited to advertising around the pitch, European Cup for Champions only and a proper knock out competition. Proper football played by proper men in better times unlike today’s overrated nonsense.
BRING OUT THE RIOT SHIELDS CHELSEAS HERE CHELSEAS HERE 😂💪💪💪
PROPER CHELS FEK THE TROPHIES
Spurs had good forwards but their defence was awful. The notion that if you have mediocre defenders but good forwards, you will continue to win matches has always been a problem at Spurs. In this particular game, the full backs and wing halves were third rate. Hence, they were thumped by Derby.
Grande chope, nacido en Nicaragua del sur ❤
Derby players should have done a lap of honour after the game.
The season we got to Wembley final. Remember it like it was yesterday stood on the popside. Pembridge had a great left foot and with a prolific strike force with Simmo etc. goals were never a problem Cost a lot at the time but peanuts compared to todays prices!
He was a willing runner and causee real problems for defenders. Brilliant in our promotion season too
A long trip down there in January. In the away end and Marco's winner made it all worth while though. He deserved to get more credit than he did at the time or ever since. Doubt many younger fans know much of him?
I own one of the shirts from this game, it was left to me by my grandad after he died. Worn by alan Durban
My first derby match ❤🎉😊
Fine team Alan Hinton was outstanding and I remember those white boots very well 😊
Im here cause i just found this very match programme at the carboot fo £1.
ahora viendolo bien, cualquier cosa este partido, el segundo gol del madrid incorrectamente anulado y el ultimo penal del derby hubo mas invasion que la de alemania a polonia
#wanchope #costarica #premierleague he needs to be in the #hof
Millwall should have been thrown out of the football league for this.
West Ham came 5th in 98-99. From Joe. X
I was at that game. Trevor Whymark missed a penalty early in the second half (not shown here) which might have squared it at 3-3 and the outcome would have been different.
I was there, sat in the paddock in front of the ABC stand - and I'll be there on 27 April, hopefully to watch us confirm promotion from the third tier again!
Millllllllllllllllll
Mark Wright. Peter Shelton. In the ranks of Derry County that year 1989, the reason why Derby ranked fifth in the league. Among the starters who played 7 matches for England in the 1990 World Cup.
A great day in the history of Derby County… alas no longer possible since Cup replays have been scrapped.
Like watching spot the ball.
Andy Garners debut, it was all downhill after this 😂
En la vuelta en el Bernabéu les dimos para el pelo a los ingleses. Una remontada épica con Amancio y Santillana en plan estelar.
Que bueno qué era Chope
27 years old today and Graham Richards' incredulity still gives me goosebumps.
Grew up listening to Graham in the 80s and no commentator has ever come close for me.
This was despite the score line The beginning of the end for a great Derby team and the beginning of a great Ipswich team. UTR ⚽️🐏
Millwall are shit club with shit fans.
Cada vez que el madrid visita ingleterra, recibe una buena paliza, el city le metió 4 en 2023, y en 2024 le va a meter 6.
I went to this one, sat in the Ley stand ⚽️🐏
I am Man United fan and a Costa rican, and its so ironic cuz I am happy for my fellow costa ricans, but at the same time feel so bad for my team. The worst part is that when a costa rican scores against Man United, we end up always losing.
The Popside was absolutely crammed ⚽️🐏
The linesman looks like the same one from 66 World Cup final.
What a game. My dad told me to watch this game
Was this the game where Bob Wilson said "Who are Derby County I don't know them." Cloughie's reply after the game was " I bet Wilson knows who bloody Derby County are now "......
2 no.8's. Gabs and Jonno.
Wanchope was a really good player. In that era, i can't think of anyone who consistently caused United so many problems.
What a team we had then we could’ve beaten anyone 🐏🐏🐏🐏🐏🐏🐏🐏🐏🐏 😎👊🏻
Baiano was different gravy.
Was there....fuming at Phil Neville for not lifting this moron into the air ....As for Graham Richard's was a tory mongol and completely mental
I hate seeing people in this shirt. We're hopeless atm Warne-ball is okay but the players are moderate. I'd rather throw the young 'uns in and watch them grow with some hard-cases for protection. Washington, Collins, Hourihan are rubbish and the club is becoming a joke
This aged well...
I was there that day!!! DCFC
What a night that was I couldn’t believe what I was watching
definitely double standards as regards challenges, Orient player breathes on derby player foul, derby player fouls orient player play on. Lot of O's players ended up at Palace, Jackson, Queen and Possee and I think Hoadley too?
